Artist Advert Analysis.

This is a magazine advert advertising Two Door Cinema Club's debut album 'Tourist History'. Throughout the advert they have used very dull colours, they have done this so that all the writing in white stands out even more against the dull background and gets the readers attention straight away. They also have used the same picture from their album cover which is of the cat, the reason they do this is so that people who are fans of TDCC are able to recognise this picture instantly and from a far which will bring them closer and they will then see that they are touring, even though it says they are 'SOLD OUT' they will have many other tour dates for their fans to find and buy tickets for which helps them increase sales and revenue.

Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, and Lily Allen Controversy.

There was a huge controversy around every one of these artist for basically the same reasons which are being very explicit however Lilly Allen is mocking these other artists with her lyrics and video in her song 'Hard Out There'. Miley for her explicit music videos, Robin Thicke for his outrageous lyrics and explicit music video for his song 'Blurred Lines'.

Starting of with Miley Cyrus and her very explicit music videos. The ones I am talking about will be 'Wreckig Ball' and also 'We Can't Stop'. These music videos are very explicit especially the first one I mentioned where it pictures Miley naked sitting on top of a wrecking ball smashing down walls, licking hammers and producing the same shot as Sinead O'Connor 'Nothing Conpares 2 U' which in itself sparked another controversy between Sinead and Miley. This video caused a lot of controversy as you can see as Miley was a star of the Disney Channel 'Hannah Montana' and was an idol for many young girls so when she goes and does these acts and also twerks on international TV it makes the general public mad as all of her young idols will copy what she is doing due to the 'Star Theory' by Richard Dyer.

Moving on to Robin Thicke. Who has made a date rape anthem so obviously this caused a lot of controversy however it was not just the lyrics that caused controversy it was also the video which in the explicit version shows naked women parading around men trying to flirt with them. This music video and the actual song has been banned in over 20 universities around Britain due to the sexual politics that the song has. The video was created by a woman who faced a lot of critics from feminists which she replied saying the women feel empowered and a fully in control as the are constantly looking at the camera.

This is the non-explicit version of the video

Then we come to Lilly Allen who has made a song and a music video which mocks the songs and videos that go for controversy to make it a hit. This song is called 'Hard Out There' and the video starts off showing Lilly under going an operation to make her slimmer so people find her more attractive and help her become a star. It then starts to show her dancing in a provocative way just like in Miley's Video and it also the lyrics also seem to be against Miley and her twerking ways with the lyrics 'I won't be bragging 'bout my cars or talking 'bout my chains don't need to shake my ass for you 'cause i've got a brain' this shows that she is calling Miley stupid as she just goes around shaking her ass to become popular.

Then she comes to Robin's song where one of the lines of T.I's verse 'I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass into two' she mocks this line through making one of her lines of her song to play off this in a sarcastic way by saying 'Have you ever thought about your butt? Who's going to tear it into two?'. As this song is about how hard it is for women to become a big star without being objectified she uses inspiration from other songs to get her point across.
