Record labels Major/Independent

A record label is a trademark given to an artist or band to help market their music recordings and music videos. The record labels are in charge of the production, manufacturing, and distribution of the products from the bands and artists that are signed for that record label. You get two different types of record labels, indie record labels and major record labels.

Major record labels are labels that are apart of a large international media group. Since 2012  there are only three companies that can be refereed to as major labels these are; Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group. These all come from different countries, Universal is owned by a French organisation, Sony by a Japanese business and Warner by an American group.

Indie record labels are labels that are small and localised. These are also known as independent record labels and these are for the up and coming artist who have normally use indie record labels to break in to the major record labels. Some indie labels are; Cherry Red, Criminal Records, and Blue Horizon
